And, age of ranu = 3x

After 4 years

x + 3x = 40

x = 10

So, the age of sujal = 10 years

and, age of ranu = 30years

Let, the present age of Ranu = x years and age of Sujal = y years

Given that : Age of Ranu is three times of Sujal age.

according to the question : x = 3y .....(1)

Also given that : After four years sum of their ages will be 40 years.

According to the question :

$(x + 4) + (y + 4) = 40 \\ \\ = x + y = 40 - 8 \\ \\ = x + y = 32 \\ \\ = > 3y + y = 32 \: \: \: \: \: [ From \: equation \: (1) ] \\ \\ = > 4y = 32 \\ \\ = > y = 8$

So, the age of Sujal = 8 years

On putting the value of y in equation (1)

x = 3×8 = 24 years

So, the age of Ranu = 24 years.
