Pathogens are organisms that are found in the human body and which can carry diseases. Examples of pathogens include bacteria, virus, fungus, protozoa etc.

Some diseases which can be caused by pathogens include the harmless,  common flu to more serious diseases such as measles, smallpox and even ebola.

These diseases can spread through simply touching an infection person, being in the same area and breathing the same air etc and it is not always easy to protect yourself.

In order to protect against simple flu virus, a person needs to regularly wash their hands, especially if they come in contact with a known carrier and better yet avoid contact with them. People can use dis-disinfectants and alcohol wipes to help with this.

If unsure or not possible to avoid an infected person, you can choose to wear a mask, or at least avoid touching your eyes, ears and nose.
