Let the present ages be x ,

So the ages are, 5x & 4x

➝ 5x + 4x = 45

➝ 9x = 45

➝ x =  \cancel{\dfrac{45}{9}}

x = 5

The ages are :-

  • 5x = 5 × 5 = 25 years

  • 4x = 4 × 5 = 20 years
