Agniwesh takes 8 hours to travels 600 km , partly by train and partly by car, if he had travelled all the way by train, he would have saved 2/3rd of the total time that he travelled in by car and would he have reached 3 hour earlier. what is the distance covered by train ?

Hey.
Here is the answer.
Total time taken by train and car = 8 hr
total distance = 600 km
so, average speed = 600/8 = 75 km/h
let time taken by car be x .
so, time taken by train = 8 - x
As, 2/3 rd of time taken by car = 2x/3 = saved time
so, new time taken = (8-x) + x/3
= (24-3x+x)/3
= (24-2x)/3
According to question, he would have reached 3hr earlier
so, (24-2x)/3 = 8-3=5
or, 24 -2x =5×3=15
or, 24-15 = 2x
or, 9 =2x
so, x = 4.5 hr
Hence time taken by train = 8-x = 8-4.5=3.5 h
According to question, he would have reached 3hr earlier,
so, time taken by train= 5hr
So, speed of train = 600/5 = 120 km/h
So, distance covered by train = 3.5 × 120 km
= 420 km
Thanks.
