On the eve of Independence the status of Indian agricultural sector was..

* Low productivity...
Level of productivity per unit of land was very low...

* High vulnerability...
Farmers were dependent on rainfall for production not irrigation methods was there....

* A wedge between owners of soil and tiller of soil....
Owners of soil were exploitated to tillers by giving less income and high rents...

* Fragmented and small land holdings...
Farmers have small and divided land which get more input and less output...

So a backward and stagnant agricultural sector we had...

On the eve of \textbf{Independence } was as follows :

1. Thier was low productivity.

2. Vulnerability was also high.

3. Less income and Hugh rents were clearly observed in farmers.

4. Most of the farmers were facing the land fragmentation problems.
