- It provides raw materials for the manufacturing industry which enables them to produce goods for consumption within domestic as well as international markets.
- It is the largest employing sector in India, and many rural families depend on agriculture to sustain livelihoods.
- Till 2016-17, it constituted 17.32% of India's GDP. It is worth noting that this share is on a gradual decline as India is in the transition from an agriculture-based economy to a services-based economy.
