I think... the speaker has regrets of killing the Albatross as the other mariners hang the dead albatross around his neck instead of the cross. The mood is apparently guilty and regretful. Please confirm somewhere else as well. Good luck!

Here speaker is feeling guilty about his work that he had killed albatross the bird which brought them happiness when they were strucked in the ocean where ice was everywhere
