Solution :-

Let us assume that, past year side of square is x and this year side of square is y cm.

given that,

→ 1 radishes = 1 cm²

so,

→ x radishes = x cm²

→ y radishes = y cm²

given that,

→ y - x = 131

→ y² - x² = 131 cm²

→ (y - x)(y + x) = 1 * 131

→ y - x = 1 -------------- Eqn.(1)

→ y + x = 131 ---------- Eqn.(2)

adding both Equations we get,

→ y - x + y + x = 1 + 131

→ 2y = 132

→ y = 66 cm .

therefore,

→ Total number of radishes this year = y² = (66)² = 4356 radishes. (Ans.)
