Step-by-step explanation:

ANSWER:-

Given that:-

  • Ahmad and Daryl had equal amount of money
  • Ahmad's father gave $ 180, Daryl spent $ 254
  • Ahmad then has 4 times as much as Daryl.

Concept:-

Linear equations and cases

Let's Do!

Let the amount of money which Ahmad and Daryl had be x.

So, next step is ;-

  1. Ahmad has money (x+180)
  2. Daryl has money (x-254)

So, the equation is :-

\rm{x+180 = 4(x-254)}

\rm{x+180 = 4x-1016}

\rm{1016+180 = 4x-x}

\rm{3x = 1196}

\rm{x = \dfrac{1196}{3}}

\rm{x = 398.66 \ Dollar}

So, $ 398.66 is the required sum they had earlier.

\huge \bf To \: Find

Amount both have

\huge \bf Answer

Let the money of both be y

Now,

Equation formed

y + 180 = 4(y - 254)

y + 180 = 4y - 1016

4y - y = 1016 + 180

3y = 1016 + 180

3y = 1196

y = $ 398.66
