Ahmed makes cardboard boxes of two different sizes. The bigger dimension 20cm, 15cm and 5cm and the smaller dimension 16cm, 12cm and 4cm. 5% of the total surface area is required extra for all overlaps. If the cost of the cardboard is RS. 20 for one square meter, find the cost of the cardboard for supplying 200 boxes of each kind.

Answer: Therefore, the total cost of the cardboard for supplying 200 boxes of each kind is Rs. 654.36

Step-by-step explanation:

The dimension of bigger box,

20cm x 15cm x 5cm

The dimension of smaller box,

16cm x 12cm x 4cm

We know that,

The total surface area = 2(lb + lh + bh)

So,

The total surface area of bigger box

= 2(20*15 + 20*5 + 15*5)

    = 2(300 + 100 + 75)

    = 2*475

    = 950 cm^2

Similarly, the total surface area of smaller box

= 2(16*12 + 16*4 + 12*4)

     = 2(192 + 64 + 48)

     = 2*304

     = 608 cm^2

Extra area required for overlaps for both boxes = 5% of total surface area of both boxes

     = 5%*(950 + 608)

     = 0.05*1558

     = 77.9 cm^2

The cost of the cardboard per square meter = Rs. 20 (given)

The cost of the cardboard per square centimeter = 20/10000

= 0.002

Total cost of cardboard used in 200 boxes of each kind

       = 200*0.002(950 + 608 + 77.9)

      = 0.4*1635.9

= 654.36
