$36 is the money he had at the beginning.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the original amount Ahsan had initially be x

Money spent at book store = 2/3 of x = 2x/3

Money left after that = (x - 2x/3)

= [(3x -2x)/3]

= x/3

Money spent at craft store = 1/3 of [x/3]

= x/9

A.T.Q.

x - (2x/3) - (x/9) = 8

(9x - 6x - x)/9 = 8

2x = 8 * 9

x = 72/2

∵ x = 36

Thus, $36 is the money she had at the beginning.
