AIDS was first found in the homosexual worker in USA . So , at that time it was thought that that AIDS disease only spreads through homo sexual contact . And in India it was found in Chennai among the group of sex workers. Then later it was found that AIDS disease spread through both homeo sexual and hetro sexual contact . it is caused by a virus known as human immunodeficiency virus i.e HIV .

Modes of transmission of HIV infection -

• Through unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person .
• using common razors and blades.
• organ transplantation ( when organ is HIV positive )
• artificial insemination using infected semen .
• It can also spread through from mother to her baby through placenta during pregnancy . this is called vertical transmission .
• Using contaminated blood .
