Lghtening is an electric discharge between clouds and earth surface that takes place due to the development of electric charges on the clouds.

when there is quick charge on the clouds is very large the voltage between the clouds and Earth's surface become so high that electric current pass through air.

From the above case we can conclude that under summer special conditions materials classified as poor conductors also allow electricity to pass through them.

hope it helps you

\huge \green\star With a lightning strike, the charge separation in distance between the cloud and the ground (or another part of the same cloud, a different cloud, or sometimes just a different region of air) is very large.

\huge \green\star In order for the charge to equalise over this great distance of insulating air, the charge differences between the cloud and the area that it equalises to also have to be very large.

\huge \green\starThe breakdown begins when a small channel of ionised air known as a charged leader extends from the charged cloud towards the region of opposite charge.

\huge \green\starThis can travel fairly slowly and is faint relative to the later lightning strokes.

\huge \green\starThe charged leader extends further and further from the cloud becoming a stepped leader and as it does so, similar leaders begin to extend towards the cloud from the region of opposite charge.

\huge \green\starEventually, the charged leader from the cloud will meet either a leader from the region of opposite charge or perhaps just the region itself and the circuit is complete.

\huge \green\starThere is now a channel of ionised air between the 2 charged regions, allowing the flow of charge from one to the other.

\huge \green\starThis resulting enormous movement of electrons is known as the return stroke and is the first bright flash of lightning that usually see.

\huge \green\starThe charged regions can continue to use the ionised channel to equalise the charge between the regions, which can result in a lightning strike consisting of multiple strokes as the charge in different regions is equalised through the channel.

\huge \blue\rightarrowThis is why lightning appears to flicker when you watch it.
