Air is another important element of our environment. Our existence on earth largely depends on it.
Air pollution comes from a wide range of sources. In Bangladesh, poisonous exhausts from mills and
factories, brick kilns, old and poorly serviced vehicles and dust from roads and construction sites are
some of the major sources of it.
We can minimize this type of pollution by making less use of motor vehicles and avoiding the vehicles
older than 20 years. We may also use proper lubricants to lessen the level of emission and pollutants.
We can use natural gas or liquid petroleum gas for fueling the vehicles. The government can also
relocate the hazardous industries from human habitation.
For all living beings, (a) water is essential. But humans are careless about the safety of water.
Think about farmlands where ----- (b) are used highly to kill harmful insects, (c) products are
thrown in to ---- (d) bodies. All these whimsical deeds are greatly responsible for water ---- (e).

Nature, Causes, and Burden of Air and Water Pollution
Each pollutant has its own health risk profile, which makes summarizing all relevant information into a short chapter difficult. Nevertheless, public health practitioners and decision makers in developing countries need to be aware of the potential health risks caused by air and water pollution and to know where to find the more detailed information required to handle a specific situation. This chapter will not repeat the discussion about indoor air pollution caused by biomass burning (chapter 42) and water pollution caused by poor sanitation at the household level (chapter 41), but it will focus on the problems caused by air and water pollution at the community, country, and global levels.
