‘Importance of an efficient public transport system’
Our country has been facing many challenges; air pollution is the most critical out of them. The amount of poisonous and health endangering particles in the air in the cities, towns, etc. has gone to such critical level that if no measures are taken to control it, there is every possibility of a catastrophe. The proportion of toxic gases and pollution particles in the air we breathe has skyrocketed. It is severely affecting our health.
Most of air pollution is caused by industry, cars, trucks, and airplanes. The exhaust gases from these vehicles consist mainly of unburned HCs, CO, and NOx and it accounts for approximately 90- 92% of all vehicle emissions. Presence of these gases in the air leads to many health complications such as, respiratory and heart conditions along with Cancer, among other threats to the body. Children in areas exposed to air pollutants are said to commonly suffer from pneumonia and asthma.
Since vehicular pollution is the most potent factor causing air, pollution, the Government must implement efficient transport system. It may be introducing electric public transport vehicles or most people using the existing modes of public transport.
Not only health problems, many other threats to our environment are caused by air pollution. Global warming, acid rain, eutrophication, depletion of ozone layer, etc are some of the by-products of air pollution.
Let’s launch a campaign against this menace of air pollution. Let’s reduce and replace the use of fossil fuels with green fuels. Let’s conserve our forests and rainforests; and let’s respect our environment and life in general if we have to live longer on this planet. And most importantly, let’s take a pledge to reduce air pollution individually, only then we can overcome this menace.
