When drawing a deep breath of fresh air, some people encounter an unpleasant greeting, as chemicals and other substances have tainted the cleanliness of their air, which may cause one to choke and cough. Across the globe, the issue of air pollution has become a hot topic, as scientists blame a large amount of deaths and respiratory disease on its widespread effects. Although enforced air quality standards (such as the Clean Air Act in the United States) have helped to reduce the presence of some pollutants, it is the responsibility of the entire world to follow prevention measures in order to help protect the future of the planet.

1. Cleaner fuels such as CNG and unleaded petrol should be used to run vehicles for reducing air pollution.

2. Alternative fuels in place of the fossil fuels should be used for our energy requirements For example, solar energy hydropower (hydel electricity) and wind energy are eco-friendly.

3. Crackers produce a very high level of air pollution. Their use should be banned or controlled.

4. New trees should be planted to consume the carbon dioxide of the air.

5. Instead of burning dry leaves and dung cakes, they should be put in a compost pit to make manure. Dung and human excreta can be used to make biogas. Biogas is used as a fuel and for lighting. The remaining sludge is used as a good manure.

6. Wood, coal and kerosene should be replaced with LPG for cooking.
