Given:

Ajay started a business investing Rs. 12000.

After 5 months, Bala joined him with a capital of Rs 9000.

At the end of the year, the total profit was Rs 4416.

To find:

What is the share of profit of Ajay?

Solution:

For Ajay:

The amount of investment = Rs. 12000

The time period of investment = 12 months

For Bala:

The amount of investment = Rs. 9000

The time period of investment = 12 - 5 = 7 months

∴ The ratio of their capitals is,

= Ajay's capital : Bala's capital

= (12000 × 12) : (9000 × 7)

= 144000 : 63000

= 144 : 63

= 16 : 7

The total profit at the end of the year = Rs. 4416

∴ Ajay's share of profit = \frac{16} {16 + 7} \times 4416 = \frac{16}{23} \times 4416 = 16 \times 192 = 3072

Thus, the share of profit of Ajay is → Rs. 3072.
