Akbar was the third ruler of the Mughal Empire. He was so liberal in his religious Outlook that he attempted to find a new religion on the basis of good points of all religions. He founded a new religion in 1581 and named it DIn-i-Ilahi. The main reason for this liberalism was his wish to become a national king and expand his Empire peacefully

Answer:

  • Akbar came to the conclusion that all religions were equally valid.
  • He adopted a policy of complete tolerance for people of other faiths. His policy was founded on the universal peace philosophy.
  • Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Jains, and others were allowed to build structures for worship, peacefully propagate their faith, and celebrate religious fairs and festivals; according to Mughal chronicles, the Mughal empire was made up of many different ethnic and religious communities, including Hindus, Jainas, Zoroastrians, and Muslims.

Explanation:

  • The emperor stood above all religious and ethnic groupings, mediated among them, and secured justice and peace for everyone as he gained knowledge about all religions and sects.
  • Akbar endorsed the Sulh-i-kul ideal, which said that all religions and schools of thought were allowed to express themselves as long as they did not undermine the state's authority.
