During Akbars time, the capital was moved many times, first to Lahore (because Delhi was a bit rebellious at the time), and later to Fatehpur Sikri, near Agra. That remained the mughal capital for the next 3 generations, until Shah Jahan in 1638 moved the capital to his walled fortress Shahajahanbad in Delhi.
