Among all the Mughal rulers, Akbar was considered as the greatest of them. There are several reasons. Not only he expanded his frontiers, but also he introduced several secular policies which earned him fame. However, in this answer, we are going to discuss his religious policies:
a. Akbar abolished the Jizya tax which was also known as the pilgrimage tax. This tax was paid by the Non-Muslims which ensured them their security by the King during pilgrimages.
b. Akbar was extremely polite to the religious officers/ representatives. Throughout his rule, we find several instances where he justified this statement. From Ain, we find that Akbar not only met with the people of other religions politely but also rewarded them. Later in 1590s, he sent representatives to Goa to meet the Jesuit Missionaries and also invited them to court.
Akbar's fame was a result of the blessings of all the people in his empire because of his secular policies. Whether it was his diplomatic move or an original one, he hit the nail at once and perfectly.
