Given : Akira receives a prize at a science fair for having the most informative project.

Her trophy is in the shape of a square pyramid and is covered in shiny gold foil.

Side of base of square is  3 inches

slant height is 6 inches

To find : How much gold foil did it take to cover the trophy, including the bottom

Solution:

slant height is   altitude of the triangle comprising a lateral face

Area of the base of pyramid  =  side²   = 3² = 9 sq inches

Area of on lateral face = (1/2) * base  * slant height

= (1/2) *  3 * 6

= 9  sq inches

Area of 4 lateral face =  4 * 9 = 36 sq inches

Total Area = 9 + 36 = 45 sq inches

gold foil required  to cover the trophy, including the bottom = 45 sq inches
