Alauddin Khalji tried very hard to match up to the beauty and architectural perfection of the Qutub Minar. However, his replica of the Minar lies in the corner of the complex and does not attract much attention. Can you give the reasons why such a powerful ruler abandoned his favourite architectural project?

Ala-ud-din Khilji was an ambitious builder. He built many beautiful monuments. Alai-Darwaza constructed by him is one of the most treasured gems of Islamic architecture. He built the city of Siri. The palace of thousand pillars was one of the outstanding features of the city. He started the construction of a huge minar near the Qutab Minar but he could not complete it due to his death.
