Answer:

A1C13 was prepared by the reaction of analytical

grade aluminium powder with hydrogen chloride in a

reaction tube at 400 °C. FeCl 3 and AlCl3-FeCl3

mixture were prepared by the reaction of the

electrolytic iron powder and Al-Fe alloy (Al:Fe = 2:1)

with Cl2 gas at 400°C using the same procedure as

described above. FeCl 2 from the Cerac Inc. (99.99%)

was used without further purification. Reagent grade

NaCl was dried continuously in a vacuum oven at

100 "C before use. The chlorides were quantitatively

weighed in an argon filled dry box due to the

hygroscopic nature of these chlorides.

Answer:

To separate the AlCl3 and FeCl3, zeolite-clay composite membranes are utilised.

Explanation:

Because of their specified pore size at the molecular level and excellent adsorption properties, zeolite membranes, a type of inorganic membrane, can separate liquid and gas species with very similar sizes and shapes

The membranes utilised are unmodified analcime zeolite (Z1), modified zeolite with oxynitride groups (Z2), and modified zeolite with imine/amine groups (Z3).

The separation of chloride salts of trivalent cations (FeCl3 and AlCl3) in an unstirred batch cell is used to characterise zeolite clay composite membranes.
