Alcohol and water are miscible liquids because they mix together in all proportions and form a single layer on mixing. A mixture of miscible liquids is separated by the process of fractional distillation.

!!!

we can separate two miscible liquids by the process o distillation or fractional distillation. fractional distillation process is used when the difference between their boiling is less than 25C.

here the two miscible liquids are alcohol and water.

boiling point of water = 100°C and boiling point of alcohol is 78°C

the difference between their boiling point is less than 25°C. so two separate alcohol and water, we need to use fractional distillation method.

now steps to be taken while separating :-

1. heat the mixture. and once it reaches the boiling point of alcohol, it'll start to form vapor.

2. then the vapors of alcohol enters the fractional distillation column which is filled with plates and trays.

3. as the vapor rises through the column, it starts cooling and then condenses in the form of liquid and then a separate tray will collect it.

NOTE THAT :- THE LIQUID WITH LOWEST BOILING POINT WILL COOL FASTER.
