when , the alcohol REACT with Sodium , it release the. hydrogen gas .



when the ethanol or alcohol is react with sodium metal it liberate hydrogen gas.




following are the equation that show the reaction between alcohol and sodium




C2 H5OH + Na ( s ) ====> 2 C2H5ONa + H2

on balancing them we get


2 C2 H5OH + 2 Na ==> 2 C2H2O Na + H2 .



here in this case there is formation of Sodium ethoxide ( C2H2 ONa ). + HYDROGEN gas .



hence ,


Option number D is correct

When an alcohol or any other member of this group like ethanol react with sodium. This will release the hydrogen gas. The reaction as

 

2C₂H₅OH + 2Na → 2C₂H₅OH + H₂
