Alex and Chris share sweets in the ratio Alex : Chris = 7 : 3. Alex receives 20 more sweets than Chris. Work out the number of sweets Chris receives.

GIVEN

TO DETERMINE

The number of sweets Chris receives.

EVALUATION

Here it is given that Alex and Chris share sweets in the ratio Alex : Chris = 7 : 3

Let Alex receives 7x sweets and Chris receives 3x sweets

Now it is given that Alex receives 20 more sweets than Chris.

So by the given condition

 \sf{7x - 3x = 20}

 \sf{ \implies \: 4x = 20}

 \sf{ \implies \: x = 5}

Hence the required number of sweets Chris receives

= 3 × 5

= 15
