. Alex used 1 quart of paint to paint a large wood cube that measures 8 feet along each edge. He plans to paint a second cube that measures 16 feet along each edge. How many quarts of paint will Alex need to paint the second cube?

Answer:

painting area of first cube = 6a²

a = side = 8feet

painting area = 6 x (8²) = 384 Feet square

paint used = 1 quart

painting area of second cube = 6a²

a = 16

painting area = 6 x (16²)

= 1536 feet square

1536/384 = 4

therefore it will need 4 times paint required as compared to first cube

I. e. 1 x 4 = 4 quarts of paint
