Algae are eukaryotic organisms that own ability to perform photosynthesis. They can be unicellular or multicellular in nature. They are also found in association with other organisms.

Algae in association with fungi are collectuvely called as lichen. They relationship is mutual or symbiotic thus benefitting both the species.

In this symbiotic relationship, fungi is provided with food and algae is provided with protection from environment.
