Answer:

A farmer travelled a distance of 61 km in 9 hours. He travelled partly on foot @ 4 km/hr and partly on bicycle @ 9 km/hr. what is the distance that he travelled on foot?

Let x be the distance traveled on foot.

thus the distance traveled on bicycle will be: (61-x)

Let T1 be the time required to travel on foot and T2 be the time required to travel on bicycle.

thus, T1+T2=9 …Given

As speed=distance/time,

time=distance/speed.

thus,

(x/4)+{(61-x)/9}=9 …(from T1+T2=9)

by solving above equation,

we get

x=16Km.

Thus the distance travelled on foot by farmer is 16 Km and the time required to travel this distance will be,

T1=16/4=4 hours.

and time required by the farmer to travel by bicycle will be:

9–4=5 hours.
