Distance = 1/4 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

  • Distance of Ali's house from school is 3/4 km.
  • Distance covered by him by bus is 1/2 km.

To Find:

  • Distance covered by him on foot ?

Solution: Let he walked x km. According to the question

➙ Total distance = Distance covered by (walk + Bus)

➙ 3/4 = x + 1/2

➙ 3/4 – 1/2 = x { 1/2 transported to LHS }

➙ 3 – 2/4 = x { LCM of 4 & 2 is 4 }

➙ 1/4 = x

Hence, Ali walked 1/4 km before taking bus.

Given:-

  • Ali's House is 3/4 km from his school.

  • He walked some distance and then took a bus for 1/2 km to reach the school.

To Find:-

  • Distance he walked

Solution:-

Let the distance travelled by foot be x.

⟹ Total distance travelled by Ali = Distance travelled by foot + Distance travelled by bus

\dfrac{3}{4} = x + \dfrac{1}{2}

x = \dfrac{3}{4}-\dfrac{1}{2}

x = \dfrac{3-2}{4}

x = \dfrac{1}{4}

Hence, Ali walked {\bold{ \dfrac{1}{4}\:km.}}
