Given : When a session runs for 3 hours, 90 people attend and when a session runs for 5 hours, only 70 people attend

a 6 hour session is scheduled,

To Find : The function expressing the linear relationship between the number of conference attendees and the duration of the sessions is..

how many people will attend?

Solution:

x represent the duration of the session (in hours).

y represent the number of conference attendees

a session runs for 3 hours, 90 people attend

=> ( 3 , 90)

a session runs for 5 hours, only 70 people attend

=> ( 5 , 70)

Slope = ( 70 - 90)/(5 - 3)  = -20/2 = - 10

Equation of line

y - 70  = -10 (x - 5)

=> y - 70 = -10x + 50

=> 10x + y = 120

=> y = 120 - 10x = 10(12 - x)

a 6 hour session is scheduled

=> x  = 6

=> y  = 10(12 - 6)

=> y = 10 (6)

=> y = 60

If a 6 hour session is scheduled, 60 people will attend
