Alisha while working in the laboratory accidently dropped a piece of metal in a blue coloured solution. She observed that after sometime the blue colour faded and the solution turns greenish in colour. What could have been the reason? Identify the metal and the blue coloured solution involved in this situation

Answer:

The metal is iron and and the blue colored solution is copper sulphate. When iron reacts with copper sulphate solution , displacement reaction takes place and iron displaces copper in copper sulphate solution , as iron is more reactive than copper, to form iron sulphate solution (green colored solution).

Copper settles down.
