the ratio of their investment is3:4
so
3x+4x=1400
7x=1400
x=1400÷7
×=200
alka is 3x 3×200=600
swetha is 4x 4×200=800

Concept:

The ratio of two numbers can be defined as how many times one number contains another.

Given:

Money invested by Alka is Rs 1800 and by Swetha is Rs 2400 and the profit is 1400.

Find:

The profit got by Alka and Swetha.

Solution:

The ratio of the investments of Alka and Swetha,

1800 : 2400 = 3 : 4

The ratio is 3: 4.

So, the profit must be in 3:4.

Let, the profit got by Alka is 3x, so the profit got by Swetha is 4x.

The total profit must be equal to 1400.

3x+4x = 1400

7x = 1400

x = 200

As the ratio must be 3: 4.

The profit got by Alka is 3×200 = Rs 600

Similarly, the profit got by Swetha is 4×200 = Rs 800

Hence, Alka will get a profit of Rs 600 and Swetha will get a profit of Rs 800.
