Alkaline earth metals do not show variable in oxidation why

hey buddy !! here's your answer...

➡️alkaline earth metals have two electrons in their valence orbital, resulting with an oxidation state of +2... they are present in s orbital and also lack d orbital .

✔️transition metals show variable oxidation state as they have both ns and (n-1)d orbitals. the energy difference of these orbitals is very less hence both take part in bond formation and exhibit variable oxidation state.

but (n-1)d orbital is not present in alkaline earth metals .
