When a solution of ethanol is heated with potassium permanganate, the pink color of solution disappear because of strong oxidizing agent as KMnO4, which oxidizes ethanol to ethanoic acid.

K2Cr2O7 and KMnO4 can convert ethanol to ethanoic acid, oxalic acid is H2C2O4 which can not convert the same.
