Acetylene reacts with Cold KMnO4 to form formic acid and on reaction with hot KMnO4 it forms Oxalic acid. Ethylene glycol. Addition of an alkene with Baeyer's reagent yeilds a glycol. Ishaan has given a wonderful answer, though if I may add, the product formed will be neutralised by the alkaline solution.
