Answer: they are less reactive in comparison to alchohals not inert

Explanation:

Alkanes have only two types of bond . One being c - c and the other being c- h .

En diff btwn c c bond is zero which makes it nearly unreactive .

Now the other one which is carbon and h bond it has en diff of .4 which is more reactive .

When you check out haloalkankes ( R- halogens ) the diff in en btwn them is high for c-florine and c- cl .

And for c- br and c- i there isn't high en diff but there bond strength is very low due to which they break more easily . So alkanes are less stable in comparison . Not inert
