Hello Friend !
Here,
• Digestive system is the integration of various organisms to meet the energy needs of an organism. This is achieved by converting food into energy.
• Digestive system comprises of oral cavity (mouth), pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine.
• Digestive system performs the function of ingestion, secretion, mixing, digestion, absorption and excretion.
• Digestion starts in mouth where the food is chewed and broken down into small pieces. Salivary glands releases saliva which digests carbohydrates.
• Through pharynx chewed food reaches from mouth to esophagus. From esophagus chewed food reaches stomach which contains HCl and other digestive enzymes required for digestion of food. It also acts as a storage tank for food.
• The food from stomach enters small intestine which is all coiled and by the time food leaves small intestine 90% of nutrients are extracted from it. Enzymes required foe digestion in the small intestine are released from pancreas.
• Large intestine absorbs water and a bit of nutrients and the waste is excreted through anal canal.
Hope this Helps !!
