Politically South Africa is a member of the Non-Aligned Movement, which more or less means that it is not aligned with any of the larger powers, and maintains a neutral stance.
It has no military allies (or enemies). It participates in peace-keeping operations by sending troops to African trouble spots when either the United Nations or the African Union calls for such involvement. South Africa does not unilaterally send troops to any country. It has resisted calls to force a 'regime change' in neighbouring Zimbabwe.
It has many trading partners. The SADEC region (Southern Africa) and the Brazil, South Africa, India alliance are notable.
