All food chains start with a plant. why this is so?

The food chain, which is sometimes called a food web, starts with plants because they are the producers. You cannot have a food chain until food has been produced.          Plants are referred as to be the producers. They produce their own food in the presence of sunlight during photosynthesis.

         Thus until the food is made, the  actual  food-chain can not be started.

        Hence, some animals feed on the plants directly and some feed upon primary consumers.
