For finding distance between P&Q:

\large\red{\large\sqrt{(x2 - x1)^{2} \times (y2 - y1)^{2}}}

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

For example :

Question:

Find the distance between the following pairs of points

(2,3)(4,1)

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Answer :

Let P(2,3) and Q(4,1) be the given points

Here, x1 = 2, y1 = 3 and X2 = 4, y2 = 1

\large\red{PQ =  \sqrt{(x2 - x1)^{2} + (y2 - y1) ^{2}}}

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

So,

\large\blue{:\leadsto} \: \orange{PQ =  \sqrt{(4 - 2)^{2} + (1 - 3)^{2}} }

\large\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{PQ = \sqrt{(2)^{2} +( - 2)^{2}}}

\large\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{PQ =  \sqrt{4 + 4}}

\large\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{PQ =  \sqrt{8} }

\large\green{\boxed{\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{PQ = 2 \sqrt{2}}}}

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

For finding X and y coordinates :

\red{[\dfrac{m1×x2+n2×x1}{m+n}],[\dfrac{x×y2+x×y1}{m+n}]}

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

For example :

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Question :

Find the coordinates of the point which divides the join of (-1,7)

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Answer :

Given :

  • Let P(x,y) be the required point
  • Let A(-1,7) and B(4,-3)
  • m;n = 2;3

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Hence,

  • x1 = -1
  • y1 = 7
  • x2 = 4
  • y2 = -3

By section formula ,

\large\red{p(x,y) \: = \: [\dfrac{m1×x2+n2×x1}{m+n}],[\dfrac{x×y2+x×y1}{m+n}]}

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

By substituting we get,

\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{x = \dfrac{2×4+3×-1}{2+3}}

\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{x = \dfrac{8-3}{5}}

\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{x = \dfrac{5}{5}}

\large\green{\boxed{\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{x = 1}}}

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Now ,

\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{y = \dfrac{2×-3+3×7}{2+3}}

\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{y = \dfrac{-6+21}{5}}

\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{y = \dfrac{15}{5}}

\large\green{\boxed{\blue{:\leadsto}\orange{y = 3}}}

Therefore, the co-ordinates of point p are (1,3)
