yes, this statement is true as because all green plants contain the green pigment called chlorophyll which is capable of trapping sunlight energy.
And since sunlight play a very essential role in preparation of food for plants. So,in the presence of sunlight these green plants make their own food from inorganic substances such as CO2 and water.
