Chlorophyll is the green pigment in some bacteria and in all plants which allows these organisms to photosynthesize by absorbing radiant energy from sunlight. Autotrophs, (organisms which are able to produce their own food) form the base of all food pyramids, in every ecosystem. Oxygen (the gas required in respiration) is released by autotrophs. Thus all life relies on autotrophs, which contain chlorophyll.

Explanation:

Chlorophyll present in the wall of mesophyll cells in the plant body are used in the presence of sunlight to manufacture food (glucose) for the plant, with CO2 and H2O, liberating oxygen. This oxygen is essential for living organisms to respire and for their existence. Thus all life owes its existence to chlorophyll..
