Chlorophyll present in the wall of mesophyll cells in the plant body are used in the presence of sunlight to manufacture food (glucose) for the plant, with CO2 and H2O, liberating oxygen. This oxygen is essential for living organisms to respire and for their existence. Thus all life owes its existence to chlorophyll.
