All of the following effects occurred as a result of Roman expansion following the Punic Wars except it allowed many Romans to buy large farming estates.

  • The Punic Wars, otherwise known as the Carthaginian Wars took place between 264-146 BCE. The wars took place in three installments between the Roman Republic and the Punic empire.
  • The result of this war included the destruction of Carthage, the enslavement of the Carthage population, and the Roman hegemony over the western Mediterranean.
  • As a result of the war, Rome became the dominant navy in the Mediterranean Sea and caused Carthage to pay for war damages. The empire was also able to take control of the island of Sicily.
  • The Punic war is very significant as it allowed Rome to train, and expand its navy and wealth. Moreover, it took Rome from a small city to a massive empire known by the world.
