Yes mate, All living things need a source of energy in order to complete other cellular processes vital to life - from cell division to DNA repair. This energy can be gained by breaking bonds of other materials (particularly glucose) to create bonds in energy molecules such as ATP and GTP, which then diffuse around a cell and power other reactions and processes. In plants, photosynthetic bacteria and thermophile bacteria, that energy is gained from light energy of the sun or chemical/heat energy from thermal vents, so the organisms don’t need to physically eat food.
