"Work" by Wladzimir Paulau has many poetic devices or figures of speech. They are as follows:

1. Metaphor: There is a metaphor in the comparison between shame and the shadow of the wing of a bird. A metaphor is a device that transfers meaning from one field of reference to another.

2. Anaphora: The lines "When that holiday will be,/ When the room won't be  and silent so," and "And off you go, and do not know" repeat the words "and" and "when" at the beginning of successive sentences. This is what anaphora is.

3.Alliteration and Consonance: The phrases "silent so", "before all the bridges are quite burnt.." and "...as suns rise and sink" are examples of alliteration and consonance.

4. Exclamation: The exclamation is an abrupt emphatic expression of an emotion, contemplation or wish that is associated with an exclamation mark. Here, in the line, "You won't be ashamed to think!" is the father's dire swish for his child to contemplate in future.
