All populations in a given physical area are defined as (a) Biome.

Lets know about biome in more detail :-

A biome is a community of various plants (flora) and animals (fauna), that inhabit a particular type of geographic region, climate and other biotic factors of the earth. It is an interaction between various communities of organisms and the environment they live in.

Biomes have no distinct boundaries there is a transition zone called an ecotone. This transitional zone For example : Forest and grasslands. It is where two communities integrate. It shows characteristics of both communities and have mixture of species of both communities.

For example :-

  • Mangrove forests which is between terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

  • Grasslands which is between desert and forest.

  • Estuaries which is between saltwater and freshwater.
