1) पूर्ण विराम (|) (Full Stop)

In Hindi, Full stop comes after the end of a sentence. In English, we use full stop/period (.) but in Hindi it is represented by a vertical line.

पूर्ण विराम का उपयोग वाक्य के अंत मे करते है, उसे पूर्ण विराम कहते है।

Example:

मैं बाजार जा रहा हूं। (I am going to market)

2) अल्प विराम (,) (Comma)

Comma is used between two sentences that contain two similar clauses or a compound sentence. The same symbol used in English.

अल्प विराम का उपयोग दो वाक्य खंडो के बीच किया जाता है उसे अल्प विराम कहते है।

Examples:

राम, नीता, नेहा और रोहन बाजार जा रहे हैं. (Ram, Neeta, Neha and Rohan are going to the market)

मैं निम्न फल आदेश दिया हूँ, अंगूर, आम, नारंगी। (I ordered following fruits, grapes, mango, orange.)

3) अर्ध विराम (;) (Semicolon)

Semicolon is used when two sentences such as compound and mixed sentences are of opposite in nature, this mark shows the importance of special sentence.

अर्ध विराम का उपयोग यौगिक और मिश्रित वाक्यों के बीच किया जाता है, यह विराम चिह्न किसी विशेष वाक्य पर जोर देने के बीच में, या मुख्य वाक्य के बाद किया जाता है।

Examples:

आपको ज्यादा खाना बंद करना चाहिए; नही तो वजन बढ जायेगा। (You should stop eating too much; otherwise weight will increase.)

आपको अपने अध्ययन पर ध्यान केंद्रित करना चाहिए; अन्यथा परीक्षा मे नंबर कम मिलेंगे। (You should focus on your studies; Otherwise In the examination you will score less marks).

4) प्रशनवाचक चिन्ह (?) (Question Mark)

This punctuation mark is used to define a question.

प्रशनवाचक का उपयोग सवाल पूछने के बाद किया जाता है।

Examples:

क्या आप मेरे साथ चलेंगे? (Would you go with me?)

तुम कहॅा जा रहे हो? (Where are you going?)

तुम य़हॉ क्यों आये? (Why you came here?).
