Answer:

1) consuming nourishment from the earth's crust and absorbing sunlight, water, and air for several years.

2) The tree in the poem heals itself by "absorbing years of sunlight, air, water." Even if attacked, hacked, and chopped, the tree will heal itself by drawing upon the earth and its surrounding environment. It will absorb the sun's energy and water from the soil.

3) The tree will be finally killed by pulling out of the mother earth. When its roots are exposed to sunlight and air, the tree begins to get scorched and choked.

4) After a tree is entirely uprooted, it is left in the sun to wither. Once the tree is uprooted, the tree dies. In the same way, once an evil thought is completely erased from the mind, it get erased.

5) The poet compares the killing of a tree with the killing of a man. As humans feel the pain, the poet imagines the feeling of the pain by the tree. A tree has a life so it must have sensitivity. Every poke or thrust with a sharp knife must give some severe pain to the tree.
